Hospice of Dayton Medical Staff
The Hospice of Dayton medical staff represents the most extensive experience in hospice and palliative care in southwestern Ohio. Our physicians serve as collaborators and consultants to the hundreds of physicians serving patients in our area, and provide medical expertise that uniquely addresses the needs of hospice patients.
Physician Bios
Jules Sherman, D.O., F.A.C.O.I., Chief Medical Officer
has served as a Medical Director of Hospice of Dayton since 1984 and as Clinical Medical Director of the 51-bed Hospice of Dayton Care Center since 2002. With practice experience in oncology specialization, Dr. Sherman is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology as well as Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists. He is a past President of the Dayton District Academy of Osteopathic Medicine.
Cleanne Cass, D.O., Medical Director
Cleanne Cass, D.O. is a fellow of the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. She holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatrics and is a member of the Board of the Ohio Pain Initiative. She also serves as a member of the American Osteopathic End of Life Committee and National Quality Forum Advisory Committee for Hospice and Palliative Care.
Walter Ferris, M.D. Medical Director
Dr. Ferris is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, American Academy of Family Practice and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. He holds advanced training in Family Therapy/Counseling.
Ruth Thomson, D.O., Medical Director
Dr. Thomson completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Grandview Hospital in Dayton and then went on to complete 1 year of hematology/oncology fellowship training at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. A graduate of the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr.Thomson is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association.
